Do you like turquoise mermaids, ice cream-colored hot air balloons, and sailors napping in fisherman net hammocks? How about folky ocean landscapes with lighthouses, clipper ships, and faraway islands? If so, you will love Ralph and Martha Cahoon. And you will be in good company, as collectors like Jackie Kennedy, Marjorie Post, Lilly Pulitzer, and Joan Fontaine have been Cahoon collectors over the many years this charmed couple painted.
Learn about the Cape Cod romance that brought the two together, and the evolution of their furniture painting business as it blossomed into a distinctive fine art business with a whimsical and humorous spirit.
You will receive sketches to print a few days before the class, then grab your paper and pencil (tracing paper is also helpful) and work with me on evolving a series of summer-themed designs that are buzzing with the charm and storytelling of the Cahoon's eternal style!
This class runs live Sunday, June 29th from 4-6pm EST. The class is recorded so if you aren't able to log on live you will receive all the same materials and content. This class includes an overview of Ralph and Martha's respective styles, a breakdown of their most beloved motifs, original drawings (of mine) you can use in your compositions, and a series of exercises we will do together to create stunning and practical compositions that will translate into rug hooking patterns.
Viva the sweet summer, and a big pink lemonade cheers to the iconic Cahoons!
See you then!
