Are you ready for the next chapter in the 'Design Like' series? Well, this time we'll be designing like the Pennsylvania Dutch Fraktur artist. A franktur is an antiquated word for a document (birth cert, marriage certificate, will, death cert, etc;) that contains both text and hand-drawn decoration. Frakturs are the backbone of Penn-Dutch design and the inspiration for rural artists like Magdelana Briner Eby.
Together, we will look at the most common motifs, the most unusual, the symbolism, color palette, and local lore. Your class (whether you watch live or you watch the recorded class) will arrive with ready sketches you might want to incorporate into your designs during class exercises and challenges.
These classes are for EVERYONE. You don't need to show your work or even turn your camera on. This is for fun, growth, and to learn a little about (in this case) the culture, the history, the art, and how you can tap into this enormous vein of copyright-free gold, and use it to make new rug originals!
This class will run live Wednesday, April 3rd 2024 from 5pm-7pm EST and Sunday, April 7th 2024 from 7-9pm EST.
